
Wedyan Association participates for the second day in a workshop on independent complaints mechanisms of major financial institutions
Day 2 of the AWC General Assembly
AWC held yesterday its regional workshop on ‘IFIs’ Independent Accountability Mechanisms (IAMs). It brought together representatives of Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO) of the IFC and MIGA, the Inspection Panel of the World Bank, the Project-Affected People’s Mechanism (PPM) of the AIIB, the Complaints Mechanism (CM) of the EIB and the UNDP Social and Environmental Compliance Unit with more than 40 CSOs in the MENA region and AWC partners.
The first session was a general introduction to the IAMs : origins, principles, independence and mandate, followed by individual presentations on IAMs in small groups of IAMs representatives and participants.
In the next session, AWC international partners, Accountability Counsel, introduced the upcoming report on complaints submitted from the MENA region and the role of accountability and work of IAMs.
In the last session, CSOs showcased their experiences with the complaints process and the IAMs.
